In 1921, a group of pharmacists and physicians led by Dr. Rudolf Steiner gathered together in Switzerland to create a natural medicine and personal care company called Weleda. Over the past 80 years, Weleda has established the highest standards for gathering, processing, and preparing every ingredient used within their products. The results are natural Personal Care products, homeopathic and anthroposophical Medicines that are known world-wide for their integrity and healthful attributes.

Weleda's analytical approach to business goes beyond product development, and has helped to efficiently expand the company over time.

"Recently, as the number of orders processed each day began to push the boundaries of what we could effectively handle, we took a step back and realized that we had a bottleneck in our process," said Marko Kucher, Chief Financial Officer of Weleda.
Weleda, like many companies, was manually entering address and service information about their shipments into their UPS WorldShip® stations for outbound orders. They would then manually update their Accpac order management system with tracking numbers and shipping charges. This process was both time-consuming and prone to human error. Weleda approached UPS for assistance.
The UPS team delivered an integration solution that allows Weleda to process orders in about half the time they did before, reduces the number of errors that were present with the old manual process, and provides better service to their customers.

"The OzLINK™ Plus integration solution was particularly helpful for us in managing our business rules. For example, my shipping clerks no longer have to remember to add the appropriate amount to a COD shipment - the system does that automatically for us," said Kucher.
With the inherent flexibility of the OzLINK Plus solution, UPS was able to streamline Weleda's entire shipping process. The OzLINK Plus solution also allowed Weleda to take advantage of the UPS Quantum View Notify service. Quantum View Notify is a time-saving service that automatically sends e-mail notification of important shipping events to customers for every order.

"The result is a significant reduction in our cost to process each order and a better experience for our customers," said Kucher. "It is great to partner with UPS and see their willingness to provide a solution that not only helps us to ship more packages, but also improves our business process. I know no other transportation company willing to work with us as closely as UPS."
